| This instrument has been heard in countless scores for television and film. The sound is produced by bowing or striking metal tines which are welded to a metal chamber containing water that provides slight pitch variations (vibrato) when stirred. There are several sizes including a "mega bass" waterphone (pictured). Many believe the instrument gets its name from the water, but in fact the instrument was named for its inventor, Richard Waters, who developed the instrument in the 1960's. |
